Stop MySQL in root SSH (if it is running, if not running at all, then this can be skipped)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Code:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>\/etc\/init.d\/mysql stop<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Start MySQL without the password prompt<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Code:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables &amp;<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>4. Get a copy of the current MySQL root password<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Code:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>cat \/root\/.my.cnf<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Copy down what it shows for the password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5. Log into mysql command line in root SSH and reset the password<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Code:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>mysql -u root\n\\u mysql\nupdate user set password=(\"NEW-ROOT-PASSWORD\") where User='root';\nflush privileges;\nquit<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Please replace&nbsp;<strong>NEW-ROOT-PASSWORD<\/strong>&nbsp;above with the actual password copied from \/root\/.my.cnf earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6.
